Every volunteer is trained, supported and matched to work that fits their skills and time.


Volunteer roles

  • Winter night patrol

    Go out in a team of three on winter nights to find people sleeping outside and offer them shelter.

    One evening a week, November to February

  • Shelter helper

    Serve meals, sort donations and keep guests company at our partner shelters.

    One shift a week

  • Counsellor

    Qualified counsellors and psychologists supporting people in recovery, survivors and carers.

    Two to four hours a week

  • Volunteer lawyer

    Advise survivors of domestic abuse and represent them for protection orders and maintenance.

    One case at a time

  • Doctor, nurse or therapist

    Health checks at shelters, or physiotherapy and speech therapy for disabled children.

    A few hours a month

  • Tutor

    Home tutoring for disabled children who cannot yet attend school.

    Two hours a week

  • Driver

    Take people to appointments, treatment centres and court, and deliver equipment.

    Flexible, with your own vehicle

  • Skills volunteer

    Design, writing, photography, accounts, fundraising or IT, often from home.

How to become a volunteer

    A conversation with our volunteer coordinator about your skills and time.

  3. Training

    An induction on confidentiality, safeguarding and the work itself.

  4. Start

    We match you to a role and a team, and check in regularly.

Volunteers must be 18 or over. Roles with children or vulnerable adults require references and a police verification, as part of our safeguarding policy.
