One line between a person and the help they need
Kashmir One Line Foundation is a non-profit run by people from Kashmir, for people in Kashmir.
Why we exist
In every town and village across the valley there are people who have fallen through the gaps. A man sleeping in a bus stand through a Chillai Kalan winter. A teenager hiding an addiction from his parents. A girl with cerebral palsy who has never been to school. A mother who cannot leave a violent home because she has nowhere to go.
Help exists for each of them, but it is scattered across hospitals, government schemes, courts and other charities. Most people never find it, or give up trying.
We started Kashmir One Line so that there is one number to call. We do the finding, the paperwork and the travelling. And we stay with each person until things are better.
Our promise. Whoever you are, whatever has happened, you will be treated with respect, and what you tell us stays private.
We help people of every faith, background and district, free of charge.
What we believe
Dignity first
People in crisis are not cases or problems. We speak to them, and about them, the way we would want our own family spoken about.
Confidential, always
Addiction, abuse and disability still carry stigma here. Nothing you share leaves us without your permission.
Local hands
Our caseworkers, counsellors and volunteers are from Kashmir. They know the language, the families, and how things really work.
We stay the course
A single night of shelter is not enough. We measure success by where someone is six months later.
Who we are
Our team brings together social workers, counsellors, doctors, lawyers and community volunteers. We work alongside hospitals, de-addiction centres, the police, and religious and community leaders across the valley.
The foundation is overseen by a volunteer board of trustees and publishes its accounts every year.
